The impact of international linkages on the behaviour of environmental non-governmental organisations

Master's Thesis Magdaléna Suchá Summer 2021/2022 Abstract The growing number of NGOs has also resulted in the growing interest of academics in them. However, the available literature on NGOs suffers from several weaknesses. For example, researchers do not substantially reflect the influence of international linkages on organizational behavior. The theory of sociological institutionalism, which is the theoretical framework of this thesis, assumes that through contacts and the influence of exposure to international structures, the institution changes and with it its behavior. The aim of this thesis is therefore to find an answer to the question of whether it is indeed the different degrees of institutionalization of organizations that manifest themselves externally in different behavior. The answer to the question is sought through an analysis of the behavior of two differently internationally institutionalized NGOs linked by their subject of interest - the environment. The first organization is the Greenpeace Czech Republic, the Czech branch of the international NGO, while the second NGO is Hnutí DUHA, which has its roots purely in the Czech Republic. The Action Repertoire of Czech Women's Organizations

Concern of this master thesis are action repertoires of czech feminist organizations. The main goal of this paper is to find out whether there are some types of activism in terms of following characteristics in the Czech Republic: organizational age, political opportunity structure, human and financial resources, and action repertoir to be found. The thesis is devided into two parts - theoretical and empirical. The author introduces evolution of the social movement theory in the theoretical part. Greater attention is given to an advocacy function of civil society organizations and to action repertoire, which social movement organizations use to reach their goals. Subsequently is shown how the literature talks about particular forms of action and its selection. There are characteristics mentioned above used in Hierarchical Cluster Analysis on sample of twenty-nine czech feminist organization in the empirical part. Finally, findings of this paper are being discussed. Relationship between the state and selected NGOs in the field of providing paliative care in the Czech Republic

The aim of the thesis is to describe the role of a sample of NGOs in the process of changing the current situation in the field of palliative care in the Czech Republic. The essence of palliative care is to ensure the highest possible quality of life for the patient and his family. The present state of care is not sufficient for the number of palliative beds or home care service teams to meet the needs of an aging Czech population. Almost the exclusive care provider are NGOs, which also take on the role of initiator of a change in the persistent situation. Based on the data from semi-structured interviews with ten respondents, the thesis method of the case study reveals what is causing the unsatisfactory situation, what proposals its solutions civil society offers and what range of means to achieve change.

Citizenship - Theoretical Bases and Teaching Practice

Eliška Bucvanová. Diplomová práce. Citizenship - Theoretical Bases and Teaching Practice ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH Weak civil society can be seen as a possible drawback of Czech democracy. One of the possible ways of building it is citizenship education provided within the compulsory school system. Citizenship is also the main subject of this work, which uses qualitative research methods to find out how the concept of "citizenship" is understood by teachers at a selected primary school, what information they provide to pupils on this subject and how. Since the scope of the paper would be insufficient, it does not intend to map the state of citizenship education in the Czech Republic: its aim is to find out how teachers approach the subject and whether their opinions coincide, and to compare their views with the information contained in literature. The results of the work show that the selected school is at a comparatively high level; however, the teachers' attitudes to citizenship education and its aims lack consistency and comprehensiveness and, also, the pupils' knowledge highly varies. This can be due to the fact that citizenship education has long been in need of an integrated approach and, very probably, also training opportunities for teachers that would help them develop their professional skills. Strategy variability in anti-corruption NGOs

The bachelor's thesis Strategy Variability in Anti-Corruption NGOs deals with the question whether hard human and material resources are related to the choice of strategies used by selected anti-corruption NGOs active in the Czech Republic or not. The thesis aims to reveal this influence by comparing the ascertained information about their resources and strategies according to the resource mobilization theory and to a strategic approach to social movements. The information gained from the organizations' documents and from interviews and questionnaires conducted with their representatives shows that the amount of material and human resources is not related to the strategies. However, the financial resources and time for which the organization has been active are linked to the choice of strategies. Those that have been active for a long time have the widest range of strategies and use the strongly confrontational strategies less often. Another finding is that publicly financed organizations resources have access to the advisory and working bodies of the government and, unlike the rest of the organizations, they have the possibility to use this strategy.

Leisure time activities of Roma children in Tabor

Bachelor thesis of "Leisure time activities Roma children in Tabor" is about the leisure activities of Roma children in Tabor. The work is focused on the history of the Roma, the relationship of the Roma child to the school, the relationship of the Roma minority to upbringing of Roma children. For the most part is dedicated to the non-State non-profit organizations, which are engaged in leisure activities not only for Roma children in Tabor. Further focuses on the Organization of the 1. Kiwajunior Club Camp, and especially on its Fílie project, which is aimed at children from socio-culturally disadvantaged environment, from the children's home Radenín, children from Asylum House for women and mothers with children in Tabor, and thus prevention of pathological phenomena. With the boy, who is involved in the Fília project, case study has been developed. The practical part is focused on the specific ways of spending leisure time activities of Roma children in Tabor, with whom and where leisure time activities they spend, whether leisure time activities the Roma children spend with family or friends, as they represent leisure time activities, whether there are whiles, when are bored.

Media representation of civil society organizations

This thesis introduces media representations of civil society organizations (CSOs) through quantitative content analysis of four dailies (HN, LN, MFD and Právo). The aim is to analyze and describe CSOs media representations in relation to media elements that characterize these representations, as well as through space and priority, organizations and actors that are associated with. The selected method allows the comparison of media representations for particular newspapers. The study builds on a social-constructivist paradigm, focusing on the agenda-setting theory, gatekeeping and news values. Thesis also discusses specifics of the CSOs and non-profit logic in relation to media and journalistic logic and their influence on the final CSOs media representations, including potential nonprofit dilemmas. The media representations are strongly determined by regionality and relationship with other sectors. CSOs are presented through positive and uncontroversial theme of good deeds. Regionality is together with social themes the most frequent topics associated with CSOs.

Annotation: The dissertation "The successful team - how to well compiling and effectively lead the NGO team" is related to the personal management of NGO. The main goal of dissertation is to provide "the manual" to the team leader, how to well compile and lead effectively his or her team in the NGO. In the theoretical part of dissertation I firstly deal with the importance of NGOs in the society and their specifics. I'm interested consecutively in the phenomenas related to the personal management of NGOs. The second part of the work is written as an interrogatory survey. Due to this survey I'm focusing on providing the rewarding informations as - what are the important factors for the members of team and how to lead the team more effectively?

The Conformity of the Managerial and Democratic Imperatives of Governance in Non-Governmental Organizations (Comparison betwěeen Berlin, Cairo, and Prague)

Governance is derived from the French word "gouverner", so Good Governance refers to the way to control, steer, rule, and direct the organizations by the individuals who are in charge of the management affairs. The study uses the theory of Alexis de Tocqueville (1956), which emphasizes the importance of the presence of democracy to manage the internal tasks of the organizations, so these NGOs can play a role in fostering democracy in civil society. The study intends to find out the imperatives of good NGOs' governance through linking the daily operational tasks and the applications of democratic principles inside NGOs by using the qualitative research method to collect information and compare the implementation of the imperatives of good NGOs' governance in organizations in Berlin, Cairo, and Prague. Thus, the study presents two normative frameworks; the first one is to conceptualize and operationalize the imperatives of good NGOs' governance through integrating democratic theory with the representation and participation schools, and the second one is to examine the influence of the internal and external factors on the implementation of these imperatives in NGOs.
